TREATMENTS

RANGE OF TREATMENTSNTS

We provide a whole host of different treatments, from joint manipulation, muscle energy techniques, acupuncture, exercise prescription biomechanics and many more.

We value ourselves as very much a “hands on” practice.  This means we spend your treatment session providing “hands on treatment” and then will go through an exercise programme and advice for you to continue with between treatments.

We don’t just hand out exercises! (Important as they are!)

NEUROMUSCULAR ACTIVATIONS

Neuromuscular Activations is a very powerful manual technique that stimulates the nervous system in order to improve the connections between the brain and our muscles. Sometimes our muscles stop working, effectively they become switched off causing injury, pain and lack of function or performance. These activation techniques literally "re-boot" the brain into remembering what the body should be doing and when. Please see our extended section on this treatment on the next page.

MANIPULATION

This is a high velocity manoeuvre carried out on a specific joint that may not be moving freely.  Manipulation followed by soft tissue techniques is very effective at restoring movement and easing pain.

MOBILISATION

This is a more gentle form of passively moving stiff joints and soft tissue that may not be moving freely.

SOFT TISSUE TECHNIQUES

This is a vital focus of treatment.  It is no good if a stiff joint can now move, but the soft tissue surrounding it can’t!  (Muscles, ligaments, connective tissue)  It is vital movement in all tissue systems is resolved, otherwise your pain/problem will most likely recur.

  • Connective tissue Massage

  • Deep transverse frictions

  • Muscle energy techniques

  • Chinese cupping

  • Myofascial release

POSTURAL ADVICE

Our physiotherapists will advise you on ways to improve and maintain an improved posture which often has an impact on muscklo-skeletal pain and dysfunction.  We may use exercises, postural taping, videos etc.

Core stability training is a key part of good posture and your physio will explain this thoroughly to you and give you a bespoke exercise programme.

PRE AND POST NATAL ADVICE

We see Mums both before birth who may suffer from back or joint pains for advice and treatments.

Post natal, we treat common problems related to childbirth such as pelvic dysfunctions and back pain while also advising on how to strengthen up weak muscles to prevent further issues.

PELVIC FLOOR RE-TRAINING

We offer a discreet woman’s health service for bladder, continence and pelvic floor problems.

Statistically one in three women suffer needlessly from these conditions but specialised help and Neuro Muscular Activation treatment can make an enormous difference and help you to lead a normal life again. See separate page for more information.

ACUPUNCTURE

Acupuncture has been practised for centuries for a host of different conditions and is now readily accepted and used in every day treatment protocols.

All our physiotherapist are qualified in acupuncture and are members of the Acupuncture Association of Physiotherapists (AACP)

We all practise both Traditional Chinese Medicine – TCM Acupuncture and Trigger Point/Dry Needling Acupuncture.  Both types of acupuncture combined with manual physiotherapy and exercises provide excellent results.

CUPPING

We also offer Chinese Cupping, a gentle suction form of mobilising tight and painful and connective soft tissue structures, whilst increasing blood supply/circulation and easing pain.

EXERCISES

These are of immense importance bolt in aiding your rehabilitation and reducing pain but also in helping to prevent a further recurrence.

Stretches - short tight muscles often cause abnormal strain on joints and soft tissue.  A simple programme of safe, effective stretches can be very beneficial.

Strengthening  - strengthening weak muscles and addressing muscle imbalance is key in reducing a recurrence of injury.

Mobilising exercise – these are good to ease pain, improve joints, soft tissue, neural (nerve) mobility.
